I believe in heroes.
I believe in the basic goodness of people. They’ll come through for us in unexpected ways, just when we thought no one cared.
I believe in keeping promises – always. No matter what. It’s important to do what we say we will.
I believe we should take responsibility for our own actions. Even when we’ve really screwed up. Even when the consequences we face are pretty awful. Not taking responsibility has a terrible impact on our souls.
I believe in kindness, in “paying it forward,” in respecting everyone.
I believe in letting God be the judge. That’s not my job, and I don’t want it. That’s why I pretty much keep my opinions on social issues to myself.
That’s basically who I am.
The other thing you need to know about me is that martial arts has been an important part of my life for many years, even though I no longer train actively. My instructor is Taika Seiyu Oyata, the founder of Ryu-Te Karate®, and his lessons were physical, mental, spiritual, and moral lessons. For years I was responsible for his international newsletter, and for several years I also had my own dojo. I earned a 5th-degree black belt and membership in the elite Oyata Shin Shu Ho Ryu organization within Ryu-Te®. The rank isn’t that important – what I learned is what matters – but it shows a solid background for writing fight scenes in my stories.
I like writing fight scenes so much that I offer workshops to writing groups on that topic, and even consulting services for individual writers. If you want more information, click on Contact Me in the header of this web page.
